About Spanish Nature Club – Bilingual Forest School in Santa Cruz

Our program's approach is simple, "Get outside, get into nature, listen and learn Spanish". Based on sound learning principles and hands-on enriching activities in nature, the children minds will transition to a quieter and more open state of curiosity, socialization and learning. Learn more about Spanish Nature Club below – a nature-based Spanish immersion school blending outdoor education with bilingual learning for young children.

  • Exposure and nourishing time in nature with friends.

  • Foster appreciation and respect for the local ecosystems.

  • Stimulating curious and inquisitive minds through emergent curriculum.

  • Foster empathy and open-mindedness through the exposure of a second and different language.

  • Spanish is introduced naturally though games, songs, storytelling, story time, nature journaling, art projects, watercolor painting, and mini-Spanish lessons along with reading and writing practice at kids own pace and level.

Lisset was born and raised in the chaotic and urbanized Mexico City where greenery is scarce. She became a nature lover during her childhood, as she held her happiest memories when visiting her Abuela over summer break. Grandma's house was very rustic and in the middle of the desert.  There, Lisset will play all day outside with her sister and cousins scavenging for snakes, red ants, scorpions and cactus fruits.

Lisset has a degree in Social and Politic Sciences and a background in research, social work and teaching among indigenous and rural communities in Mexico, engaging in literacy for children, adolescents and adults. Spending time in these communities, she also learned to value and see nature as a living entity on which we depend to live.

Lisset moved to Santa Cruz and became a mother in 2006 and raised two smart, bilingual, strong and nature lover's daughters.  To make Motherhood sustainable she worked as a nanny and Spanish tutor for many years. She also volunteered in her kid's classrooms all the way from preschool to middle school and whatever she interacted with kids Lisset always brought Spanish and nature with her.

Lisset created Spanish Nature Club in 2020 in the midst of Covid-19 crisis as a response to the need of safe options to support Santa Cruz families in need of childcare or enriching activities for children otherwise socially isolated.

In her free time, Lisset likes to spend time in nature, running with her dog, and backpacking or hiking with friends. She also enjoys dancing to Latin music, reading books, and practicing ukulele or guitar. She also loves to hang out with her two daughters, who are now in high school and college.
